Reventals, the leading event rental marketplace, has recently launched Evie an AI assistant that helps renters plan events and select rental items.
We re now enhancing Evie with more sophisticated language understanding, tighter database mapping, and smarter workflows.
The contractor we hire for this project will be first in line for our future AI tools and expansions assuming a great fit.Core Requirements:Strong experience with OpenAI s APIs and working knowledge of multiple model types (including GPT-4o and tools like embeddings, function calling, etc.)Proficiency in Python for backend integrationDeep understanding of API authentication, streaming responses, and error handlingFamiliarity with prompt engineering, including message structure, system instructions, and few-shot examplesBonus: Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate) and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)Bonus: Background in SaaS platforms and conversational UXResponsibilities:Integrate a full product catalog as a custom data source to be queried via a conversational agentDevelop a reasoning engine that can guide a user through conversational prompts to narrow down selections from a product catalog based on specific business constraints.Collaborate with our team to extend Evie s capabilities, including improved language analysis and item mapping logicGuide and implement prompt strategy, assistant behavior, and contextual memory where relevantWork alongside our frontend team to fine-tune the chat experience and workflowHelp us navigate OpenAI model selection and best practices for scalability, reliability, and iterationWhy This Role MattersWe ve recently launched Evie and are moving quickly to iterate and expandThis is a high-visibility initiative success here will lead directly to more AI work with usYou ll help shape how thousands of renters interact with AI to plan meaningful eventsHow to ApplyPlease share:Relevant experience using OpenAI s APIs, particularly beyond basic chat use casesExamples of prompt strategies, assistant design, or database-integrated NLP workRecent design where 3rd party data was integrated and conversationally query-ableLinks to code samples, apps, or GitHub repositories (if available)How many hours/week you re available - and how many hours per week you can work during US (CT) work hoursNote: we are looking to hire a contractor who will work as an integral part of our team.  We will not review applications from agencies.
